Pic-Nic is a new social network for the creative community, devised and conceptualised by the founder of the Cooking Vinyl record label and Big Chill festivals, Pete Lawrence. Here’s what Pete has to say about his new venture:
Hi, and welcome to the Pic-Nic Village community.
We have some big ideas. What I’m seeing with Pic-Nic is nothing less than a blueprint for an evolution in social networking. That may sound ambitious, but that’s because we’re attempting to deliver a different emphasis to networking – a more practical platform for our own personal evolution.
My interests have always revolved around the creative arts, and in this Pic-Nic is no different. We’re aiming to build a specialist social networking site dedicated to supporting creative pursuits. Its scope will be more wide-ranging as it unfolds, but creativity will always be central to Pic-Nic from day one. It will have many tools you’re familiar with and some you may not have seen before. The overarching principle, though, is “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. By being a Pic-Nic Village community member we will all have the benefit of what is otherwise a highly disparate feature set, all under one roof, and with a mutually-supportive and knowledgeable community around us.
Pic-Nic is also about values and maximisation of our talents. We’ve constructed the venture around a ‘social market’ economic philosophy, in which commercial activity is ethically focussed on wealth creation for all, rather than profit maximisation for the few. Also, members will have a say in how Pic-Nic Village is run and what it does – the interests of our community will always be paramount to Pic-Nic Village.
To build the main Pic-Nic Village website and make all this happen, we need to raise development finance. That’s what our current activities are geared towards. If you’re interested in knowing more or receiving updates, why not register with us here.
